So naturally with all of the hype around virus stuff I thought I'd give a look at some of the stuff I had. I have to admit I'm a little embarrassed in not realizing the expiration dates on those masks were so short. Some of the ones I have actually don't have them printed on, but from what I read five years is the expiration. A lot shorter than I had expected.
I know with regards to NBC type masks it's not as though they stopped working one day after the expected expiration, rather it's a degradation. I'm wondering with these N95 and N100 masks what the degradation time frame is. Funny there's a lot of preparation information out there around NBC type masks, but not so much around these.
Was wondering if doubling up would negate some of the expiration deterioration. Of course probably not so comfortable to breathe through.

How does a paper mask expire?
Re: N95/N100 mask expiration
I've kept all the old masks. From what I have gathered over the years, this is more of the company not being held responsible of the interrogatory of the filter over time, though if stored properly it should not break down.

Yeah I definitely am not going to get rid of them, I was just wondering if anybody had any knowledge about how efficiency May deteriorate over time. I believe in the presentation I was watching it had something to do with the fiber deteriorating.
In the worst case scenario I think its effectiveness would probably just be less than initial, still better than none.
